Ron Smith, President
I’m a Wyoming native, my ancestors first coming to Wyoming in 1856. I grew up on a ranch in Western Wyoming at the interface between the wild and the tame. It was there I learned early in life, the value of hard work and dogged determination, and dedication to wise land use.
My parents moved to Green River during my high school years where I became the town’s second Eagle Scout recipient. I graduated from Green River High School and then continued my education at the University of Wyoming. During my college years I became fascinated with the “ologies,” especially if they had a “bio” or an “eco” or an “etho” as a prefix.
I later worked at several positions relating to conservation biology and environmental ethics before retiring in 2014. I currently reside in Lander, Wyoming with my wife Carol where I’m involved in writing a memoir and working with two groups of talented and dedicated people who have the goals of helping to restore bighorn sheep populations to the southern Wind River Mountains and for Keeping Sinks Canyon Wild!
