Via Ferrata Project in Sinks Canyon canceled!
Sinks Canyon WILD (SCW) would like to thank Fremont County and the Wind River Reservation communities for your robust engagement and work helping to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Sinks Canyon, specifically regarding the proposed Via Ferrata in Sinks Canyon State Park. From the start, SCW felt that the proposed Via Ferrata would detrimentally alter the historic character of our beloved Park, damaging the landscape and wildlife that call Sinks Canyon home. SCW, therefore, swung into action, disseminating information, and establishing that area citizens did not favor the type of commercial exploitation the Via Ferrata represented. You stepped up, providing testimony, displaying signs, and doing the work that blocked this poorly thought-out project.
While Wyoming State Parks applied a media spin on the cancellation of the via ferrata, alluding that misinformation was one of the reasons for the project’s cancellation, SCW stands behind the information we provided. We strived to present accurate and ethical information regarding the proposed Via Ferrata project and will continue to do so on future projects impacting Sinks Canyon.
SCW remains committed to advocating for a Sinks Canyon State Park master plan that represents the true north values for which the State Park was originally created to protect and enhance. We will remain steadfast in standing up for the wise management of our treasured canyon.
Thanks and congratulations to you all!
