Karen graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Zoology.  She started her career as an Assistant Supervisor for the Fremont County Weed and Pest. She went on to work in various positions including teaching at several schools.

She has been consistently involved with volunteer work, most notably as a Master Gardener and as a docent with Friends of the Elephant Seals. Principally, she raised and cared for three children now grown. She is an avid naturalist, hiker, and camper.
